The formula behind a strong bullet
Each bullet should answer three questions: what did you do, how did you do it, and what changed? Google's recruiters popularized it as the XYZ formula: accomplished X, as measured by Y, by doing Z.
| Weak | Strong |
|---|---|
| Responsible for the payments API | Rebuilt the payments API in Go, cutting p95 latency from 900 ms to 120 ms for 40k requests a minute |
| Helped with onboarding | Redesigned onboarding with product and design, lifting week-one activation from 31% to 44% |
| Worked on CI | Reduced CI time by 65% (22 to 8 minutes) by parallelizing tests and caching Docker layers |
Tailor bullets to the job
Reorder and reword bullets so the skills in the job description appear in your strongest lines, but only where they are true. The resume to job description match tool shows which skills a listing asks for that your resume doesn't mention yet.
