Match your resume to a job description

See which skills and keywords from a job your resume covers, and which it misses.

Free, no sign-up. The match runs in your browser; AI tailoring is optional.

Match result

Paste your resume and a job description (or load a PickedJobs job) to see your match.

AI tailoring

Find the gaps a recruiter would notice and get rewritten bullets that use the job's language truthfully.

Add the resume first.

AI is optional. When you use it, the text above is sent to Anthropic's Claude to write the result. We don't store it and it isn't used for training. Check the result before you use it.

How the match works

  • Skills: we look for over 100 technologies and practices, from React and Kubernetes to A/B testing and stakeholder management, in the job description, and check whether your resume mentions each one.
  • Repeated phrases: words and two-word phrases the job uses more than once, after removing common job-ad filler like “team” and “experience”.
  • Score: skills count twice as much as phrases, because they are what recruiters search for.

Tailoring your resume to a job

  1. Put the job's most important skills into your summary and your most recent role.
  2. Use the employer's wording where it's accurate: “PostgreSQL” rather than “Postgres”, “product analytics” rather than “metrics”.
  3. Back each skill with a result. The resume bullet point generator helps you write those lines.
  4. Never add skills you don't have; interviews will test them.

Frequently asked questions

How do I match my resume to a job description?

Find the skills and phrases the job repeats, check which ones your resume already shows, and add the missing ones where they are true, ideally inside a bullet that shows the result.

What is a good resume match score?

There is no universal threshold. Covering most of the listed skills, especially those in the job title and requirements, matters more than the number. Don't add skills you don't have to raise it.

Is my resume uploaded anywhere?

Not for the keyword match: it runs in your browser. Only a PickedJobs job link you paste is fetched, to load that job's public description. If you choose AI tailoring, your resume and the job are sent to our AI provider to write the result; they aren't stored or used for training.

Does this work like an applicant tracking system (ATS)?

Partly. ATS search and screening differ between employers, but most let recruiters search for skills and job titles. Making sure the job's key terms appear in your resume helps you show up in those searches.
